MOUNTAIN NEWS!

New for Mount Washington’s Nordic Center this year,  we will have indoor waxing. There is a 10′ by 16′ shed being place near the snowmobile shed for your waxing needs.  We will continue to have the waxing area out the back of the lodge also.  This fall some widening of trails has been done on;  Park Entrance, Jutland, Lower section of Grind and Lower West Meadows.  Drainage issues have been addressed on Far East, Jutland and upper part of the Grind.

We also have a new trail, about 2km long, Blue in difficultly, starting 1/3 of the way up the Grind and linking into the junction of the Upper, Lower and Grind. It should make it easier for intermediates to access the Lower West Meadows.  The trail has excellent  views looking over Jutland towards the park and Rossiter’s and Diver’s lake.  We will be taking suggestions for a name up until Oct 30th.  You can email name suggestions to nordic@mountwasington.ca.

Looking forward  to the snow falling and the start of another season.  Opening day is planned for December 10th, but cross those fingers, we would like to open in November again.

Marc

RUN!

Join the Devos and the Junior Racers for the Perseverance Run in Cumberland on October 31st. Proceeds support the Cumberland Community Forest Society. Sign up online.

HIKE!

Join fellow club members this weekend on a hike/run at Elk Falls in Campbell River. Meet at the logging road bridge in Elk Falls park at 10am. Enjoy some fresh air and exercise with club members in the beautiful Elk Falls and Snowdon Forest.

RABBITS

We are still looking for a Sunday parent to assist Skill Development Coordinator, Alix Wilson. This person will act as a liaison between the Sunday Coaches, Sunday Parents, and Alix. Don’t let the title of the job deter you – if you can send an email, you can do this job!

We also need lots of coaches – about 25 in fact.  You could coach all 10 sessions, co-coach and learn from each other, or act as an alternate.  If you are enthusiastic about skiing and want to share this joy with kids, please consider coaching this year.  Expert skiing skills are not required, but smiles are.

Coaching Courses are free and the skills you learn at the courses will help improve your own technique as well!   This year we are in need of approximately 10 new coaches.  Courses are Dec 3/4 for the Intro to Community Coaching and Jan 7/8/9  for the Community Coaching.  Mark your calendar now and let us know you’re coming!

Check out the Rabbits pages for more info!  If you don’t find your answer there, contact Alix Wilson at alibedali@shaw.ca or Laura Johnston at dl_johnston@shaw.ca .

See you at the Ski Swap,
Laura Johnston and Alix Wilson
Rabbits SDP Coordinators

Behind the scenes

Bob Hauser and Len Apedaile met this week to discuss standardizing racing courses for club events. The purpose is to establish consistent sprint, 1.5km, 2.5km, and 5km race loops and associated maps to simplify race planning, preparation, grooming, course marking etc. We will also do the same for the Loppet course with the intent that the Loppet involve a tour of as much of the trail system as possible. Club members are welcome to provide their input and opinions into this process or even get involved in a “trails subcommittee” which will be a focus point for ski trail related issues including grooming feedback, future trail development, race trail homologation etc. For more information please contact Bob or Len apedaile@oberon.ark.com

Many thanks to Alex Dunae, webman extraordinaire, of Dialect.ca for taking the time to fix our sidebar and some other complex website problems!

Bottle Drive

Support your Junior Racing team by saving your empty beverage bottles and cans for them.  Your Junior Racing team is working hard, training and raising money for the trip to Nationals in Canmore this season.
