Snowy winter coming our way!
According to Friday’s “The Province” newspaper, we can expect a snowy winter. “La Niña is like the cold cousin of El Niño,” Environment Canada meteorologist David Jones was quoted in the article. “The dice are loaded in favour of colder weather.” Register now for club membership & programs to take advantage of earlybird prices–for what may be a phenomenal ski season! Visit Zone 4, select “Online Registration”, and scroll down to find “Strathcona Nordic Ski Club”. Earlybird prices are on until November 30.

Behind the scenes
Bob Hauser and Len Apedaile met this week to discuss standardizing racing courses for club events. The purpose is to establish consistent sprint, 1.5km, 2.5km, and 5km race loops and associated maps to simplify race planning, preparation, grooming, course marking etc. We will also do the same for the Loppet course with the intent that the Loppet involve a tour of as much of the trail system as possible. Club members are welcome to provide their input and opinions into this process or even get involved in a “trails subcommittee” which will be a focus point for ski trail related issues including grooming feedback, future trail development, race trail homologation etc. For more information please contact Bob or Len email@example.com
Many thanks to Alex Dunae, webman extraordinaire, of Dialect.ca for taking the time to fix our sidebar and some other complex website problems!

Looking forward to another fantastically fun season of Rabbits–we need a Sunday Rabbit parent to be the Sunday Session Coordinator. This person assists the incoming Skill Development Coordinator, Alix Wilson and acts as a liaison between the Sunday Coaches, Sunday Parents, and Alix. A Sunday parent must take on this role. If you can send an email, you can do this job!
We also need lots of coaches – about 25 in fact. Some coaches are responsible for all 10 sessions, some co-coach and learn from each other, and other coaches act as alternates. If you are enthusiastic about skiing and want to share this joy with kids, please consider coaching this year. Expert skiing skills are not required, but smiles are. Coaching Courses are free and the skills you learn at the courses will help improve your own technique as well! This year we are in need of approximately 10 new coaches. Courses are Dec 3rd/4th for the Intro to Community Coaching and Jan 7th/8th/9th for the Community Coaching. Mark your calendar now and let us know you’re coming!
If you’ve got questions about the Rabbits program, please check out the club website and view the Rabbits section in the sidebar. For additional information contact Laura Johnston at email@example.com or Alix Wilson at firstname.lastname@example.org. If you are interested in learning more about the Sunday Session Coordinator role or Coaching, please contact me a.s.a.p.
See you at the Ski Swap,
Rabbits SDP Coordinator
