SNSC Update – May 17, 2012
May 17th, 2012 by admin

Run or hike

All-club run/hikes begin this weekend! Explore the trails around Vancouver Island with fellow SNSC members with 2-3 hours of easy-paced activity. Join the running group or the hiking group.

  • Sunday, May 20 – Elk Falls, Campbell River – meet at the fishing bridge
  • Sunday, May 27 – Nymph Falls, Courtenay – meet in the parking lot to RUN/HIKE around the river (some can ride bikes as needed)

Be ready for 2-3 hours of physical activity, and remember to dress for the weather and bring your own hydration and snacks. Hope to see you there!

May Camp

We enjoyed the best turn out ever for spring race camp. More than 50 club members enjoyed spring skiing under sunny skies — along with group meals, a BBQ, and lots of fun & games! We have now started our spring and summer training. If you would like more information about our racing programs, contact us! info@StrathconaNordics.com

In this May issue, we have things to look forward to, and we’ll recap some April highlights as well. Remember to return your borrowed racing suit–more information below.

Be sure to check the website later this month for all-club run/hikes. Hope to see you out there!

VIMSS fundraiser: Many SNSC members enjoyed the VIMSS BBQ fundraiser on Saturday, April 21. Here, SNSC member and VIMSS Chair Rick Morson congratulates SNSC President Len Apedaile on his draw prize win. May Camp

If you are in a racing program, or plan to join one–then join us on Mount Washington, May 11-14 for May Race Camp! This camp marks the start of the new training season for Devos, Juniors, and Masters racers.

The first session begins at 4pm on Friday, and there will be two sessions on Saturday and on Sunday with an additional early Monday morning session for Juniors. Accommodation and food are included in the cost.

If you are attending some or all of the sessions, contact your coach as they are planning meals, accommodation, and activities:

  • Juniors and Masters racers – Coach Dave battison.dj@gmail.com or 250 202-0578
  • Devo racers – Coach Tim tim@mcgrady.ca

This is a great opportunity to enjoy some fun, on-snow training sessions and to bond with your team!

Roller skis

Next week, we will be putting in an order for new Canadian-made roller skis. Last fall, members of our team tested the prototype of the new roller skis. Everyone was quite impressed with the suspension design of the Canadian company.

They are available for $350 (not including boot bindings or shipping), which is a discount from the regular price of $420. Contact Coach Dave ASAP if you would like to be included in next week’s order. battison.dj@gmail.com or 250 202-0578

Andrea Lee

Congratulations to Andrea Lee on another stellar racing season! Andrea consistently placed in the top six at NORAMs this winter and medaled at both NORAMs in February and Nationals in March. Andrea was also named to the BC Provincial Team. We hope to catch up with Andrea later this summer when she’s home, so she can fill us in.

You can return it:

  • at May camp, wash it and hand it in when you you arrive
  • email treasurer@StrathconaNordics.com to arrange another way of returning the suit

If it’s not returned by May 30, we will have to cash your deposit cheque.
