Although it is not an official part of the Rabbits Skill Development Program, we encourage all skiers to participate in the Coastal Cup Race on Mount Washington. They can experience the thrill of racing, and skiers can set new goals for themselves.
As this race is running during the same time period as regular Rabbits sessions, this race is promoted as a fun ski activity in lieu of a regular Rabbits instructional session.
Parents are responsible for their children before, during, and after the race as the Coastal Cup Race is not an official part of the Rabbit program. Coaches may be present to help lead a group warm-up, provide pre-race encouragement, and racing tips. However, they will not be responsible for the skiers.
Race distances vary between 1 km and 5 km depending on the age of the skier. The race is typically “free technique”, meaning that the skier can choose to do either the classic or skate technique. Race courses vary from year to year depending on terrain conditions and other Nordic events that may be happening on the same day. Race courses are typically posted prior to the event at the Raven Lodge. Race start may be either a mass start, or individual start, with 30 sec intervals between skiers.
The Race Notice is usually published one month before a race. Be sure to read the race notice to learn details like the race start time and race distance.
There is a small fee for the event. Registration must be done prior to the race registration deadline, online on the Zone4 website. (Registration will open on Zone 4 a couple of weeks before race time.) In the weeks before the race, there will be a race notice posted on this website and in the Raven Lodge.
Race results are typically posted following the race in the Raven Lodge, on the Zone4 website, and can be viewed through our club website.
