It’s been a month since our last newsletter, so we have lots to catch up on. After Christmas, we’ll be moving to weekly newsletters. Winter is coming. Check out the news and opportunities below.
Mark December 28 on your calendar and join us for a coaching info/workshop/fun day of skiing for all Bunny, Rabbit, and School Program coaches from 9am-2pm on Mount Washington in the nordic area. If you are coaching this season, please plan to attend!
This is your day to meet your fellow coaches for this season, get a repertoire of skills and games ready, have some fun on snow with Head Coach Andrea, and meet Head Hare Marika. Don’t miss this day of fun and valuable information.
It’s not too late to sign up for the Community Coaching (CC) Workshop on December 12-14. Coaching is a great way to have fun outside in the winter, expand your skills, and help the ski community grow. Contact Doug for more information and to register. email@example.com
A sign is being erected in the stadium to commemorate Dave Battison and his lasting contribution to our club, our community, our athletes, and our children. Mount Washington has generously offered to name the stadium after Dave; however, without some sort of lasting sign to indicate this; the dedication may largely go unrecognized.
Members of our club and ski community have already generously donated to this initiative, but we are still in need of some funds to help cover the cost of the sign.
If you can make a contribution to the Dave Battison stadium sign, your support would be greatly appreciated. No amount is too small. Contact info@StrathconaNordics.com
Welcome back to another season from Mount Washington Nordic! Just a reminder for season pass holders, if you haven’t already received your pass, the season pass office at the alpine lodge is open 7 days a week, 9am to 3pm. You will need your pass on your first day of skiing. Right now, the planned opening day is Friday, December 6th.
The School Program and Mount Washington Nordic Centre, together, are hiring some cross-country ski instructors for this season! If you are available a few days per week this winter and want to share your enthusiasm for xc skiing with school groups and private lesson-takers, this may be a job for you.
They are providing a CANSI level 1 course on Dec 18th and 19th, as you must have cross-country ski instructor certification. The course costs $90, which would be reimbursed if you work until the end of March.
In addition to wages, there are additional benefits to the position. If you are interested, contact Marc at firstname.lastname@example.org or Lynda at email@example.com (ASAP) to learn more.
Best wishes for clear roads, fast skis, and lots of fun to the club members travelling to the Teck Coast Cup #1 in the Callaghan Valley this Sunday. Go team!
Thank you to everyone who participated in the Butcher’s Block fundraiser and the Superstore fundraiser! Big thanks to Patty Johnson and to Barb Matson for organizing!
On January 4, we’re having an “all-club” race and everyone is welcome to join in the racing fun. The race is a test event for our race officials as they prepare for the Teck BC Midget Championships, which our club will be hosting on February 7-8. Mark it on your calendar as a fun event – and participate as a racer or as a volunteer. Look for more info coming soon!
The club has some nice Helly Hansen “race” suits for sale, which are not just for racers! The jerseys and pants are nice, functional cross-country ski wear, and they have the club name and logo on them! Contact Andrea for information. firstname.lastname@example.org
The Gear page is open for business once again. If you have cross-country ski items that you want to buy, sell, or trade, you can post them on the Gear page.
