Mount Washington

The deadline for early bird prices on Mount Washington Season Passes is September 30. If you plan to buy a nordic season’s pass, do it soon to save on fees. Remember, to participate in SNSC programs, you need to have either a seasons pass or trail passes for winter 2015.

Gear Swap & AGM

It’s time to dust off your nordic ski gear and decide which gear you want to sell at the swap and which gear you hope to find! Mark it on your calendar:

Saturday, November 7
Queneesh Elementary in Courtenay

The program for the day will be similar to last year with drop-off of cross-country ski gear in the morning, AGM following lunch, and the gear sale in the early afternoon.

Contact info@StrathconaNordics.com to volunteer at the swap! We need people to help with set up, gear intake, food and beverages, gear sales, and clean up.

Don’t miss the AGM, where you can learn the latest club business and news — and get in first to the gear sale!

More details on the schedule to come.

All aboard!

With the AGM approaching, the club is looking for members to join our dynamic Board of Directors! You can contribute to the growth, development, and management of this excellent club.

There are several vacancies and opportunities on the board. Camp

On September 11-13, Strathcona Nordics Devo, Junior, and Masters racers enjoyed a weekend of fantastic weather, team building, and training at Miracle Beach Provinicial Park in Black Creek.

Fourty-three athletes ranging in age from eight to 58 participated in a variety of activities including roller skiing skills and a time trial, strength training, and the new and very popular big group game of “bone collector”. With a good section of the paved campground roads closed to traffic, athletes enjoyed an ideal venue for perfecting roller skiing technique as well as lots of forested terrain for our annual group games.

A big thank you to the volunteer coaches and parent helpers for making this such an excellent and fun camp, from the delicious food, including an amazing West Coast Wild Salmon BBQ and songs at the campfire to the great training – thank you and well done everyone!!

Attention shoppers

The Thrifty Foods Smile Card program is active again. If you shop at Thrifty’s, contact Patty to pick up a Strathcona Nordics Smile Card — or if you still have it, continue using your Strathcona Nordics Smile Card.

At no extra cost to you, Thrifty’s will donate 5% of your purchase to our ski club wax program and help our racers as they represent our club and island across the province and nation.

You can still collect air miles with every purchase and use your Smile Card at any Thrifty Foods store. Contact Patty pjstew@shaw.ca

Biathlon

The Vancouver Island Biathlon Club invites you to take part in a one day biathlon race at the range at Mt Washington Nordic on October 3.

No experience? No problem! Their instructors are available to familiarize you with the biathlon rifle and shooting protocol. Everyone will receive a wristband band once they have completed safety training and will not be able to start the race without one. The race will be conducted in a safe manner and everyone is welcome.

See their website for more details.

They aim to have FUN!

Please note the deadline for entry is 12 noon, September 30th!
