WHITEHORSE NATIONALS 2016

From March 19-26, Tallon Noble, Connor McGrady, Madeleine Guimond, Ross Lamon, Matthew Salmon and Eva Salmon competed at the 2016 Canadian Nationals in Whitehorse.

Each athlete skied in a team sprint event, an individual sprint event and three distance events, short, middle and long, ranging in length from 5km to 20km.

In the Juvenile Boys category, in his very first Nationals competition, Matthew Salmon had a breakout event, finishing on the podium in 6th place after a very fine performance in the 5km middle distance skate race. Matthew also finished a solid 11th in the 10km long distance classic race. Also in the Juvenile Boys category, Ross Lamon put in a series of outstanding races in the 1km skate sprint race, advancing to the A Final where he placed 6th and on the podium.

In his first year in the Junior Boys category, Tallon Noble placed just outside the top 20 in the challenging 20km distance classic race. Having just aged up this season, Noble skied an excellent and consistent race finishing 6th fastest in his age grouping. Also in his first year in the Junior category, Connor McGrady demonstrated very fine technical skiing and a solid performance in the short and middle distance races.

On the girls side, Madeleine Guimond, also in her first year in the competitive Junior category, had an excellent race in the 5km classical technique race, placing just outside the top 30 and 17th in her age group. Eva Salmon, in her first Nationals competition, skied well and produced some of her best performances this season.

Andrea Stapff says she is very proud of the athletes, and would like to thank all the parents and club volunteers for their incredible support.

Thanks for another excellent year!

Matthew Salmon places 6th and earns a spot on the podium.
