Welcome

Welcome to the Strathcona Nordic Ski Club (SNSC) website. SNSC is Vancouver Island’s cross-country ski club. We are based in the beautiful nordic ski area of Mount Washington Alpine Resort near Courtenay, BC. Mount Washington has over 50 km of groomed trails that cover a variety of terrain — everything to satisfy the beginner, the advanced nordic skier, and everyone in between.

We are a not-for-profit society dedicated to skier development and the promotion of nordic skiing for fun, fitness, recreation, and health. We are also working to improve the infrastructure and facilities for nordic skiers on Vancouver Island. In winter 2010, we realized one of our long-term goals when we sent SNSC officials and skiers to the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver!

This year, we have three club members going to the World University Games in Trentino, Italy in December 2013! Athlete Andrea Lee is one of six female racers who qualified to race for Canada at Games. SNSC Head Coach Dave Battison was named Head Coach for the Canadian University Team. Rounding off our club representation at the games, our favourite race official and president Len Apedaile was selected by the International Ski Federation (FIS) to be the Technical Delegate for the nordic events at the Games. Well done, you three!

Learn more about us on the About page. Catch up on our latest news on the Home page.

On October 1st, registration opens for SNSC winter 2015 programs and membership on the Zone4 website. The Earlybird registration deadline is October 31, 2014.  Remember, when you register for our programs or membership, you will still need a Mount Washington Nordic Season’s Pass (which are usually for sale starting in mid-late summer) or trail pass to use the trails! Rabbit families are eligible for a special trail pass, which is valid only on Rabbit program days and will be for sale when the Raven Lodge opens in December. To learn about club membership, visit the Membership page.

Our recreational 2015 programs begin on January 10th and 11th and run for 10 weekends. You can find out more about SNSC programs on our Programs pages. *We’ll be updating the pages soon for the 2014-15 season.
