KAL TIRE BUNNYRABBIT & JACKRABBIT PROGRAMS

Contact: rabbitcoordinator@strathconanordics.com

The Kal Tire Bunnyrabbit & Jackrabbit programs form the Skill Development Program (SDP) for children, and are based on the Nordiq Canada and Sport Canada’s Long-Term Athlete Development Model (LTAD). These two Skill Development programs are designed to encourage lifelong participation in cross-country skiing while developing all children to their full potential.

Watch this video produced by a Strathcona Nordic Ski Club Rabbit program parent featuring some highlights from the season and interviews with coaches, parents, and Rabbits!

All programs run for 10 weeks and includes participation in our local Teck Coast Cup event, the Beckie Scott Sprints event and the year-end Bunnyrabbit and Jackrabbit celebration.

Kal Tire Bunnyrabbit Program

The Kal Tire Bunnyrabbit Program (Active Start) is for children aged 4-5 years old and is designed to develop fundamental movement skills with a focus on balance and agility, coordination, self-confidence, imagination and social skills. It encourages children to be active, grow to skillfully control their bodies, and develop an awareness and appreciation of our natural environment. Parent participation in all lessons at this level is required.

Kal Tire Jackrabbit Program (Levels 1 - 4)

The Kal Tire Jackrabbit Program (FUNdamentals) is for children aged approximately 6–9 years old and aims to help children learn basic cross-country ski skills and to instil a lifelong interest in sport, thereby enhancing their quality of life and health. The program is designed to develop FUNdamental movement skills, build overall motor skills, confidence and social skills, and encourage fun participation. Low-key competitions are introduced, as are inter-club social, skill, and fitness-oriented ski activities, such as the year-end tournament. Families can register their skier for either the Saturday or Sunday session.

All registered families are expected to volunteer throughout the season. Various volunteer roles are available with the Rabbit program and also with general SNSC activities. The registration process includes a section where registrants can pledge their commitment to volunteer hours.

Share your love of skiing and become a certified coach!

Program availability is based upon having a sufficient number of certified volunteer coaches. The coach to skier ratio is 1:4 for Bunnies and 1:5 for Jackrabbits. It may be necessary to cancel programs or groups if we do not have enough coaches. Coaches receive priority registration and discounted registration fees.
